Sonos, the world’s leading provider of multi room audio solutions, yesterday announced that a range of their products can now support Apple’s AirPlay 2 audio streaming technology. It the Sonos One, Sonos Beam, Sonos Playbase and second generation Sonos Play:5 speakers which now boast the support.
Thanks to the new support, AirPlay 2 can now instantly send sound from any AirPlay-compatible iOS app to those devices. That means that there’s another easy way to use Sonos to listen to services like Apple Music, Spotify, Audible, and dozens of others.
On top of that, enabling AirPlay 2 on Sonos also unlocks the possibility of using Siri to control Apple Music. Using an iPhone or iPad, Sonos users can now ask Siri to play whatever they wish and to play it wherever in the home they want to hear it.
The new link up of AirPlay 2 and Sonos devices isn’t all about listening to music either. Apple’s audio streaming tech allows users to watch videos on apps like YouTube, Netflix, and many others and pipe the sound throughout their home on Sonos.
Sonos users who have devices other than the four types listed earlier can also benefit from this new support, as long as they also have at least one of those devices. Grouping other Sonos devices to an AirPlay 2 compatible speaker allows them to use AirPlay across their entire home sound system.
