Sonos Drop Hint That Amazon Alexa Integration is Close

Wireless speaker and whole home audio specialists, Sonos, yesterday released an update to its privacy policy. Usually that would not be anything to write home about, but on this occasion the update included a big hint that the long-anticipated integration between the audio company and voice control solution Amazon Alexa is finally on the verge of arriving.

In a blog post welcoming the arrival of the new privacy policy, Sonos made the following comments regarding the upcoming link-up with Alexa:

‘First, you’ll notice that we’ve added a section on what it means if you choose to enable a voice assistant to control your Sonos system when that becomes available in your country…the most important thing for you to know is that Sonos does not keep recordings of your voice data. It goes to the voice assistant service (for example Amazon) that you’ve activated on your Sonos system.’

Having pre-announced the integration with Amazon Alexa almost a whole year ago, Sonos movement towards actually actioning the collaboration has been frustratingly slow. A private beta has been ongoing for a while but an actual widespread release has been yet to materialise, and many Sonos users have been getting noticeably antsy.

This week’s update to Sonos’ privacy policy, however, suggests that Amazon Alexa voice control will finally be possible for Sonos speakers in the not too distant future.
