Couture Digital updated the lighting control system at this five-star hotel, achieving a state-of-the-art result while also making effective use of existing equipment.

The Franklin Hotel is one of London’s original boutique townhouse hotels, located in the exclusive district of Knightsbridge. A few years ago, the building underwent an extensive renovation overseen by noted designer Anouska Hempel, who is renowned for creating interiors that are uniquely romantic and opulent.

We were chosen because of our expertise with Philips Dynalite: we were one of the first UK specialists to achieve Philips Dimension status, an accolade awarded to specialists with deep experience in delivering complex, sophisticated Dynalite systems.

Other companies had proposed a new installation, and while this would have been an easier route, it would have been costly and disruptive and would have taken some time. Our team was able to deliver the result the designer wanted faster and at a fraction of the cost by making the most of the system that was already in place.

The building is equipped with a lighting control system from Philips Dynalite. This company makes the world’s finest systems of their kind, used in more than 30,000 projects worldwide. Its solutions can be seen at some highly recognisable buildings including Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Westfields Shopping Centre in London, and Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum.

However, the hotel’s lighting control system had been unused for some time before the renovation and had become somewhat dated. Couture Digital was therefore asked to evaluate and update it.

For example, we were able to retain all the existing lighting dimmers and upgrade only the user interfaces – this alone saved the business a considerable sum. The key was careful planning, thorough understanding of the existing components, and skilled programming of the older generation of Dynalite software, dLight 2.

Following this successful update, Couture Digital was awarded the ongoing maintenance contract. Since then, our team has continued to upgrade and improve the system whenever appropriate.
